High School Students in Healthcare
Targeted Learner: High School Students in 11th and 12 graders interested in a career in healthcare. Must have a minimum of GPA of 2.7. Students can use this program to complete their required service hours.
Time Frame
4-6 weeks
Performance Objectives
By the end of the course, students will lear and demonstrate the following:
- How and when to wash hands in the clinical area.
- How to enforce HIPAA rules.
- How to properly perform a manual blood pressure.
- How to properly perform a home glucose monitoring test.
- How to communicate with patients and family members.
- Medical terminology.
High School Students who complete our volunteer services may be eligible for part-time paid work experience
Family Medicine Rotation with Focus on Entrepreneurship
Targeted Learner: Master’s Level Physician Asssistant / Nurse Practitioner student in the clinical phase at their institution with an interest in entrepreneurship in medicine or healthcare administration.
Time Frame
4 weeks or one Clinical Rotation as determined by their College/University
Performance Objectives
In addition to the objectives required by the university, students will demonstrate understanding of
- CPT coding for billing purposes for clinical procedures in family medicine.
- Revenue generating role of the Provider and financial implications to include salary.
- Prior authorization for prescriptions
- Vaccine management
- Medical legal documentation for patients
- Support staff logistics.
- CLIA-waived laboratory procedures.
Medical Assistant Externship
Targeted Learner: Medical Assistants in the clinical externship phase of their Medical Assistant training at their institution. Must be recommended by their professor.
Time Frame
4-6 weeks or one clinical rotation.
Performance Objectives
In addition to the objectives required by the training institution, the medical assistant will
- Human anatomy, physiology, and pathology
- Medical terminology
- Electronic Health Record experience
- Record keeping and accounting
- Coding and insurance processing
- Laboratory techniques
- Clinical and diagnostic procedures
- Pharmacology
- Medication administration
- First aid
- Office practices including prior authorization
- Patient relations
- Medical law and ethics
